Welcome to the official site of Chess section of the Lacul Ursu Sovata Sport Club ! Based on a more then 40 years of activity, the chess players from our town are playing in local and regional competitions, but also in national and international events. The main activity of our club is located at the Sports Hall nearby the Little Railway Station. Everybody are welcome to our competions, no difference between professional or amateur players, citizens of our town or foreigners. We have a well scheduled activity year by year which is starting with Sovata Town`s Championship, a round robin tournament with two matches by week, in January-March period.  In the last week-end of May we are celebrating Bear Lake`s birthday with a rapid tournament named “Bear Lake Cup” for adult and “Contafex Cup” for youth players. From November until the end of the year we have another two competions: the rapid chess championship for “Christmas Cup” and the blitz championship. Also we participate in a couple of one day rapid chess events organized in different towns and villages in Szekler Region. The main event of our club is the Sovata Chess Open tournament, an international competiton listed in Romanian Chess Federation`s and FIDE`s schedule also.
